Course Research: Utilizing a play or film which addresses the impact of technology in society, the students actively engaged in an immersive learning environment utilizing technology-infused techniques, applied to an interdisciplinary project. The purpose of the course is to examine theories, issues and expressions of dramatic work using theatre and film as a medium for critical analysis. Particularly important is to have access to hands-on learning. Therefore students worked collectively on constructing a reinterpretation of a classical or iconic play. The 1920’s drama, “R.U.R.” by Karl Capek, is considered a landmark in opening the conversation on the impact on technology in society. During the rehearsal sessions, students incorporated digital acting techniques to further re-enforce the subject matter.
The final performance is presented at the Social Fiction Conference. The production is interdisciplinary and experiments with digital theater techniques utilizing video projection, CGI, sound design and lighting effects. Students are expected to participate in both acting and technical support.
